In our study using a herbal extract in a large dose, we found that the nucleus engulfs the mitochondria in cardiac myocyte of rat in a way similar to phagocytosis. All heart injury markers and apoptosis (by tunnel) are higher in these rats. Is it a new form of apoptosis or a case of oncosis? I appreciate your suggestions and opinions.

Does 'caspase genes were normal' means caspases are not activated?

I have an idea about mitochondria engulfment by the nucleus in myocytes. If there is so much DNA damage, DNA repair enzymes could need more ATP for their activity. Short way to obtain ATP could be engulfing the mitochondria inside the nucleus. This is just my theory.
For caspase-independent apopstosis : there are almost 11 different cell death mechanisms and most of them caspase-independent. Also, 14 or maybe more different caspases have been identified so far. I believe, there are more cell death pathways have not been discovered yet. You found one of the existing cell death other than caspase-dependent apoptosis or you found a new one.
