CHI SQUARED TEST STATISTIC: If you work with quantitative data and the sample is too small to assume normal distribution, the test statistic for chi square is:
X2 = [(n - 1) S2] / sigma2
where n = sample size, S2 = sample variance, and sigma2 = estimated population variance. Compare the result of the calculation to the critical value of X2 given in the chi square table read by (i) degree of freedom : df = n - 1 and (ii) percentage confidence interval.
