1) Who is the founder of social role? As I searched in Google, it came out with lots of names.
2) Is role enhancement regarded as a theory or it is just one of the components in social role theory? I can't find the conceptual framework for Social Role Theory as well.
3) My topic is about grandparenting. I am trying to apply Social Role theory as the theory of grandparenting. Is it suitable? Thanks.
There are several versions of role theory, but one of the most prominent is Symbolic Interactionism or SI. George Herbert Mead is considered to be the founder of SI, but his writing is mostly from the 1930s. A somewhat more up to date discussion, which emphasizes role theory, is Sheldon Stryker's book 1980 book, Symbolic Interactionism.
