How to purify boron esters? Hello. I'm synthesizing borates in my lab. My questions are as follows: 1. How to purify boronate esters like B(OR)3 compounds, and it is a UV undetected compound. I'm doing column normal silica, eluent acetone/MC 1:1 and I think it's broken down into alcohol. But our vacuum pump didn't work well (about 40 torr to 100 torr). Can't try distillation. 2. What column chromatography fillers can replace alumina? (I ordered alumina TLC(neutral) but it's taking too long.) 3. Is there a chemical technique that can be used for purification of boron esters? This will help others as well, so please explain. Thank you.
You can try using recrystallization and column chromatography to purify the product and obtain borate esters.
The sorbitol extraction method involves dissolving the boronate ester in a solvent like ether, then adding sorbitol to form a diol complex. The free boronic acid will precipitate out of the solution, leaving the ester behind.
