There are other techniques that can be used to separate beryl from other minerals in beryl ores, besides froth flotation. Some of them are:

Gravity separation: This technique uses the difference in density and specific gravity of beryl and other minerals to separate them. Beryl has a higher density and specific gravity than most of the gangue minerals, such as quartz, feldspar, mica, and fluorite. Therefore, beryl can be concentrated by using devices such as jigs, spirals, shaking tables, or centrifugal separators12.
Magnetic separation: This technique uses the difference in magnetic susceptibility of beryl and other minerals to separate them. Beryl is weakly paramagnetic, meaning that it is slightly attracted by a magnetic field. Some of the gangue minerals, such as iron oxides, are strongly magnetic, meaning that they are strongly attracted by a magnetic field. Therefore, beryl can be separated from iron oxides by using devices such as low-intensity magnetic separators or high-gradient magnetic separators32.
Electrostatic separation: This technique uses the difference in electrical conductivity of beryl and other minerals to separate them. Beryl is a good conductor of electricity, while most of the gangue minerals are poor conductors or insulators. This paper reports the flotation behavior and separation mechanism of quartz and iron ore containing beryllium using sodium oleate as a collector and starch as a depressant. The results show that quartz can be effectively separated from iron ore containing beryllium by reverse flotation under acidic conditions.
Separation of beryllium from alkaline solutions using a novel extractant: N,N,N′,N′-tetrakis(2-pyridylmethyl)ethylenediamine by Y. Wang et al., Separation and Purification Technology, vol. 209, pp. 108-115, 2019. This paper describes the separation of beryllium from alkaline solutions using a novel extractant: N,N,N′,N′-tetrakis(2-pyridylmethyl)ethylenediamine (TPEN). The extraction mechanism, thermodynamics, kinetics, and stripping behavior of beryllium with TPEN were investigated. The results indicate that TPEN is a promising extractant for beryllium recovery from alkaline solutions.
Separation of beryllium from lithium by solvent extraction using Cyanex 272 by S. K. Singh et al., Journal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry, vol. 323, no. 3, pp. 1405-1414, 2020. This paper presents the separation of beryllium from lithium by solvent extraction using Cyanex 272 as an extractant and sodium hydroxide as a stripping agent. The effects of various parameters, such as pH, extractant concentration, metal concentration, stripping agent concentration, and temperature on the extraction and stripping efficiencies of beryllium and lithium were studied. The results demonstrate that beryllium can be selectively extracted and stripped from lithium by Cyanex 272.
