I want to decrease the concentration of Na+ in my extracellular solution. I have therefore decreased the amount of NaCl in my solution. What Chloride salt shoudl I use to maintain the same amount of Cl- and osmolality in my solution? I dont want to affect the concentration of other ions such as Na+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+.
What about sugars like sucrose or trehalose to maintain osmolality? If you really need Cl ions, Tris HCl would be better than Ammonium Chloride that may be toxic to cells.
If you need to keep other ion concentrations constant, you will probably need to use an organic salt, like cholamine chloride.

I think I'll use choline chloride and TRIS HCl. I'm patching cells so want something as gentle as possible.
