For my thesis, I am looking to analyse a between-subjects relationship in SPSS: a 3 (categorical variable 1: level 1, level 2, level 3) by 6 (categorical variable 2: level 1, level 2, level 3, level 4, level 5, level 6) analysis. The outcome/DV is categorical variable 3 with levels 1 and 2.

*looking at the interaction between variable 1 and 2 on variable 3.

Categorical variable 2 was a multiple response measure in which participants could select more than 1 answer (e.g., a participant might choose level 3 and level 6 of categorical variable 2). Level 1 is the reference group for categorical 2 and if participants selected Level 1, they were prevented from additionally selecting any other levels of the variable.

My question is: what analysis could I use for this relationship and how could I go about treating categorical variable 2 (multiple response option question) in the analysis?
