As we all know, Agar is a solidifying agent. Its intended use in media based on its strength. Sometime, i use phytagel in replace of Agar (Plant media), even there are few specific for bacteriological too. You can use phytagel or agar in MS media at .7% of its concentration. Eventually, there is no difference between those two Agar, its solely depends on its intended use in combination with proper strength for cultured organism.
bacterialogical and plant agar makes difference only in its purity. some times in plant system these impurities present in bacterialogical agar will inhibit the hormone action. our experiance clearly explains this.
I have a question too:) I made MS medium with phytagel and stored in the fridge. When I reheated medium, it made some clumps which didn't dissolve at all. Maybe medium with phytagel cannot be reheated? Or I did something wrong...
their isnt any different between them only in the concentration that you want, in the bacteria media they use 12 gm but in plant tissue culture we use 7gm because we want the media semi solid so its best for our work.
