Dear railway researchers,

I have a practical question. I am looking for suitable equipment for compacting soil and gravel in the laboratory. In our laboratory, I plan to build a laboratory model in a scale of 1:1 (railway substructure, railway superstructure). In the model, compaction (consolidation, stabilization) of the soil layers and gravel of the ballast bed will be carried out. Can you please share your experience with what device do you use in your laboratory?

In detail, for the soil, it would be best to use a CAT soil compactor equipped with a foot drum, which is used to compact the soil. For gravel, it would be best to use a track bed aggregate stabilizer that is used in track construction/maintenance (eg DGS 80 from Plasser&Theurer).

However, it is obvious that it is not possible to invite these large machines to the laboratory, and therefore it is necessary to use a spare machine. In addition, due to the work in the laboratory, it should work without emissions (no fumes, only electricity or gas is allowed). Do you have any experience or recommendations? Thank you in advance.
