I am doing a second order condensation reaction. Since two molecules of reactant combine to give product. I am a little confused about the value of a or A0 (Initial concentration) for calculation. Since it is a dimerization reaction product amount will be half of the initial concentration. Is it correct to use half of the reactant as initial concentration?
Not at all. You should use A0, i.e. the full reactant concentration. If you are considering the reduction of A your kinetic equation should be dA/dt=-2A*Kd.

Actually I am monitoring the product through UV visible spectroscopy. So I am directly getting the x (product concentration) value. Now I am little biased about the initial concentration value (A0), that whether it should be initial amount of reactant taken for reaction or half of the initial amount. Since in a dimerization reaction maximum amount of product can be half of the initial amount. For reactions other than dimerization, I have no problem in selecting the initial amount.

As far as I can see, and once you have established the order of the reaction , any current fitting program will be good for treating your experimental data and give you the reaction rate constant.
