I think the amount of fuel saving and reduced non renewable energy consumption cost should be the focus point that links energy with economic factor . In every sector that support the economy growth- manufacturing ,business sector ,etc..which energy source is being used will help identify the Re.energy consumption with economic growth.

Indeed, your question is very interesting but the answer, at least from my point of view, is really complex. I would like to highlight some of the main concerns related to your question:

- First of all, GDP is not the most accurate indicator to assess economic growth, since there are many factors which are not considered in this broad macroscopic parameter (alternatively people tend to use Human development Index or GDP corrected per capita or per purchasing power parity).

- Second, a key heuristic for Sustainable Development is decoupling economic growth from energy consumption, through the enhancement of efficiency in energy-systems.

- Renewable resources have per se a different variability compared to traditional fossil fuels (as well as REC - renewable energy consumption). Think for a moment about wind, solar or hydroelectric power; the generated power from each of them are linked to the specific climatological conditions over a year, month, day, etc. Alternatively, you can use the installed power of renewable resources as an indicator of the diffusion of these technologies.

- Another important aspect is the existence of incentives and/or subsidies in order to foster the fast growth of renewable energies; policy-makers can initially structure tax-schemes that favor the initial growth, but long-standing performance of renewables has not been studied thoroughly.

An interesting approach will be a multivariate data analysis, considering the most important parameters highlighted here.
