I'm using a phosphate assay kit from a company, which doesn't divulge the specifics of what's in their reagents. To prepare it, we mix a yellow-colored solution with a very small volume of clear solution. I'm trying to understand which solution has the molybdate or the malachite green, or whether they're already mixed together beforehand. Can anyone help me based on this information?
Firstly the company is probably SIgma. Secondly all the kits work on the same principle so:
Malachite Green Reagent A - Ammonium molybdate in 3M sulfuric acid
Malachite Green Reagent B - Malachite green oxalate and polyvinyl alcohol
As malachite green was originally used as a dye/pH indicator, I think you can guess which is the coloured one as it is yellow below pH 0.2.

Reagent A in my case is yellow, and Reagent B is clear with a small volume added.
