Thank you for the reply. Your dependant variable appears to be severity which is a categorical variable with more than two categories. Based on this I would suggest starting with a regression model of the form.

Sev = a + b*coinfect. Because Sev has 3 categories you should use multinomial logistic regression.. Some possible references would be given by the attachment. I get it that you have measured disease severity as mild, moderate or severe (ordinal data). How have you measured Co-infection?. The way you measured it will determine the appropriate Statistic to use for measuring its relationship with disease severity.

I have measured the co-infection as Nominal data i.e. Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C or None.

Each entry has any one of the above answer.

For relationship between Disease severity and co-infection, a simple test you could conduct is Chi-square, first to test for any significant relationships if it exists. And to measure the strength of relationship you can use Cramer's V coefficient which is based on the chi square statistic. This could be another option in addition to the multinomial logistic regression. My view.
