To avoid cross reactivity with human DNA, fungal specific primers were designed, which are recommended to be used when amplifying directly from clinical specimens, including SR6R and LR1 (Vilgalys & Hester 1990), V9D, V9G, and LS266 (Gerrits van den Ende and de Hoog 1999), IT2 (Beguin et al. 2012), ITS1F (Gardes & Bruns 1993), and NL4b (O’Donnell 1993).
