In my opinion, equipment from Applied Biosciences offers high quality solutions regarding (qRT) PCR equipment.

for general purpose, just go ABI, which is expensive.

the lightcycler from Roche is fatest, also expensive.

cfx from bio-rad is OK, not too expensive.

I have experience with both Lightcycler from Roche and CFX bio-rad. I would prefer to use CFX bio-rad. I am not using their software for data analysis so, can't give an insight into which software is more user-friendly.

I have used Veriti™ 96-Well Thermal Cycler for PCR and Illumina EcoTM Real-Time PCR System for qRT-PCR. Both of these worked fine for me.

In research laboratories, qPCR assays are widely used for the quantitative measurement of gene copy number (gene dosage) in transformed cell lines or the presence of mutant genes. In combination with reverse-transcription PCR (RT-PCR), qPCR assays can be used to precisely quantitate changes in gene expression, for example, an increase or decrease in expression in response to different environmental conditions or drug treatment, by measuring changes in cellular mRNA levels.

CFX96 touch from BioRad is really easy to use, and several suppliers sell a SybrGreen that works with this machine.

The Bio-Rad CFX384 high-throughput system is really good.

BioRad is cheaper, is easy to use, works with different plates or strips. it's possible to stop the reactions, to skip the PCR steps, to perform a gradient of temperature..

If you are considering studies based on sybrgreen, it could be Bio-Rad CFX Connect, which is cheaper and uses the same software as CFX96. I used CFX connect for several studies. I think it is best choice for quality and price.
