I'm working on my thesis formulating a water-insoluble adhesive to be used for insect sticky traps. what tests should i employ related to this type of adhesive. anything is helpful thank you.
Behavioral tests assaying for roosting preference (surfaces with or without adhesive)(do naive individuals favour one surface over the other) and chemorepellent effects should be assayed for. The adhesive strength is an obvious one (strong enough to trap target species but not off-target species like bats an birds). The duration for which the adhesive is active under different environmental conditions (UV, hot/cold, repeated wetting etc.). This might be combined with investigating the breakdown products as these might be released into the environment. Some of the properties of the adhesive during application and removal (% coverage or layer thickness using different application methods, viscosity and ability of different solvents to clean from equipment/spills). Material and chemical compatibility would also be useful. Then there are assays for toxicity (for the adhesive itself and not insecticide containing formulations) for off-target species.
