My understanding is there are 2 approaches to extraction of continuous outcomes: 1. use the pre-post change in means and the post-intervention indicator of variablity (SD, SEM); or, 2. establish comparability in baseline performance between groups for each outcome of interest and then use the post-intervention mean and associated SD (or SEM) in the meta-analysis.

Are there other options? Is there a prefereable option? What are the pros/cons of the different options?
