What might a sci-fi narrative look like from the perspective of elites justifying leaving the masses behind to secure their own survival? How might it portray their moral reasoning and ethical dilemmas?
Elites may convince themselves their lives intrinsically hold more value, or rationalize that preserving top intellects and skills benefits whatever remains of humanity. However, notions of fair distribution of resources and Kantian imperatives not to use people as mere means would be challenged. A literary portrayal could vividly yet nuancedly convey their philosophical reasoning, self-assured hubris, underlying doubts, and wrestling with cognitive dissonance as they justify abandoning others to dystopian fates while securing their survival in comfort. The narrative could highlight questions of complicity, sacrifice, courage of convictions, and what true ethical leadership entails in crisis scenarios requiring difficult choices.
