I want to do drop weight analysis on a composite material. As the material properties do not exist in the engineering materials. So I have to define a new material with experimental data. What properties do I need to define in the engineering materials so that drop weight/Impact results can be found.
I think, you can use the test on any materials. I used explicit material from Ansys library (AL2024T351) it works without any problem.

To carry out the impact or drop teat on any material using ANSYS it requires Young's modulus, Shear modulus, Poisson's ratio, and density. If the composite used is orthotropic material, then it requires Young's modulus, Shear modulus, Poisson's ratio in X, Y and Z directions and Density of the material.

What kind of structure we talking here; simple laminate sheets, or composite honeycomb panels? For the latter, a reasonably detailed 3d model using shell element structure types is likely to be required to capture the crumpling mechanism of the honeycomb. My thesis (uploaded on my profile) has some detailed steps on how I set that one up if you'd like to adapt similar methodology, although I was using Al-Al honeycombs.
If we're just talking a laminate sheet, I'd suggest that modelling the layers as thing 3d brick elements would be most reasonable, with the anisotropic material properties in each direction (which should hopefully be identical in the two transverse directions, as well as the stress / strain for yielding and ultimate should suffice.
You shouldn't have to do *too many* tensile tests to get the data you need.
