For assessing whether any chlorine is left too to disinfect and to also kill off any algae or bluegreen algae, you may be able to use residual chlorine strip tests. You could compare total chlorine, free chlorine, and residual chlorine results. Ideally you will have some free chlorine or chlorine residual left in your water. Total chlorine may include chlorine added but bound to particles and not available to disinfect or kill off any algal growth. There are more advanced ways of measuring chlorine, but these are usually cost effective and easy to use.
