The technique of dating by radioactivity (carbon 14) has long been known, but it seems that it does not give very precise results; so, are there any other techniques that are more accurates and reliables ?
For older ages, other methods are used such as potassium-argon dating or rubidium-strontium dating for dating rocks, or thermoluminescence, which allows the dating of rocks or sediments which were burnt. Although certain dating techniques are accurate only within certain age ranges, whenever possible, scientists attempt to use multiple methods to date specimens. Correlation of dates via different dating methods provides a highest degree of confidence in dating.
