To select a bearing, there are many aspects to take into account like how your system in mounted (internally / externally to your system)? How are oriented the applied loads that the bearing should be supporting (axial / radial / normal)? What is the predominant load? How are the efforts taken on your system? How is your mounted assembly is balanced? And so on.

Then you should correct that load with speed, life and temperature factors, which are easy to calculate or select from producer (SKF, FAG etc.) catalog. So you got dynamic capacity required of your bearing. Then, from producer catalog, for known diameter of axis (shaft), you select the bearing with dynamic capacity greater than that calculated. You must take care of how to built in your bearing in the housing. It depends on is there a axial force and its direction.
