It seems to me that the mechanism is somewhat different. The virus spreads in the room without air conditioning also, with ordinary air currents. The trouble is much hard in airplanes, hotels, etc., when large air conditioning systems exchange air in different rooms or parts of the premice (see the history of Legionella). But these systems also spread other diseases - seasonal flu, rotavirus, etc. And if in ordinary life I don’t visit infectious diseases hospitals, then I’m in a similar environment on the trip.

From my own experience - after each flight across the ocean (in the USA) I have been sick for few days, I’m already used to it and try to avoid contact with my family a first days after the trip and don't visit relatives and friends during first weeks.

A funny story happened with me in the USA. The director of the building in which I worked set the temperature about 19-20 C. This is rather uncomfortable for the Russians - we are used to 22-24 (Not to mention the huge energy consumption - there were about 30 outside). I had to leave the building several times a day, he asked me: "What are you doing?" I answered: "I'm warming myself ...". Therefore, many employees took a windbreaker or cardigan for ofice from their cars.

Gorshkov, I would like to add that it would be useful and perhaps necessary to build air conditioners with filters and other systems such as UV rays suitable to block and kill any type of virus or bacteria. On the other hand, if almost all new cars have filters for air conditioning, against pollen, why not do the same thing for viruses and bacteria?

In my college, the electrical current is interrupted, so the air conditioners do not start.

Be careful being in a room that is supposed to be air conditioned but does not operate because there is no electricity. The air flow in this room is not good for your health. You should open doors, windows and other air vents.

I think :

1- people in the work space should be examend

2- air conditioner should be independent for each room

when using an air conditioner during this time, adequate measures are important. for example, we open the door and windows for fresh air every two hours for 20 mins, then put on the air conditioner again. by this, the worries are reduced.

This mechanism should be effective in aeroplane and hotels which are made quarantine. Virus present in compact room should be expelled.

Now we know that we have to think about the room air conditioning system in the new normal era. I just think, maybe, there will be any other virus that more dangerous than Covid-19 in the future. Do we have to WFH and lockdown again? So, what should we do?

It seems that air-conditioning can actually accelerate the transmission of droplets from one individual to another. In this regard, it would be a better idea to use ceiling ventilation systems rather than wall-mounted ventilation systems. Because the latter might further propagate the droplets in a horizontal plane between individuals.

Its two ways to look at it with equal reservations. 1. Aircon is shared space (eg. Open plan) or 2. separate offices but with ‘central aircon system’. Both of these, I feel can become a detrimental amidst the current COVID-19. All of these must be taken into account when it comes to the workforce and office space planning. Unfortunately, I don’t have the solution/recommendation to this potential problem, but just giving my thoughts.

The new normal has obviously changed everything. The use of airconditioning is no exception. Most public shared places have automatic sterilizer sprays to clean the air. I think that this technology will soon be part of the traditional ac system.

I am against the use of air conditioners as they bring in humid air. Heat does not bother people; it is the humidity that makes people uncomfortable. In order to remove this nuisance humidity, one needs to use a dehumidifier that removes water vapour from the air. This instrument will move the air around and might also transport the virus.

I have never been keen on systems that distribute, rather than filter and monitor, air. I suspect this is true of poorer systems.
