People who are diagnosed with cancer often experience a wide range of problems, as well as a sense of urgency to get into treatment as soon as possible.
However, most health care providers expect a patient accept the care and treatment without telling anything about their experiences, credentials and etc.. . What is your opinion about rights of the people who are diagnosed with cancer?

It is always a blow to get a ca diagnosis even if it is in situ. Because of its bad reputation cancer evokes fears and existential angst. It should be taken seriously and people have the right to be treated as soon as possible.

I agree with your comment. Patient rights can provide a good quality of care for the clients. But my question is:What is your opinion about rights of the people who are diagnosed with cancer in early stages or end stages. Please tell about both of them.
A;;patients should be respected and involved in their care. I think the experience of the patient depends on the doctors and the facility.
I am a chaplain, trained at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences where many people including very prominent people from around the come for state of the art treatment for cancer. The model used there was a team approach which respected and recognized the patient and families involvement in the care and decision making process. ( I was assigned to the Cancer and Neurological floors and was a member of the Palliative Care Team.) . In the cases that I was involved in the doctors were excellent as far as sharing information abut treatment and open regarding their credentials.
In my opinion the public health system should provide the best available therapy in early stages, when cure is possible. Besides medical support, these patients and their families should receive not only support, but also information for the quality of life improvement. Medical therapy should be an option, a choice after a discussion with health care providers and maybe cancer patients too.
Even palliative care should be clearly discussed with the patients.
If the patient is major (in our country above 16 years) and mentally sound then this diagnosis should be informed to him with prognosis and appropriate treatment along with alternative treatments and pros & cons of all treatment modalities and the patient decide. If the patient is minor or mentally ill, his or his care-taker or parents should be informed........................

Dear Nader! The diagnosis of cancer makes the person doomed to a fatal death from this disease. Many other diagnoses allow the doctor to save a person's life until natural death.

'Cancer' is a blanket term that can denote any of hundreds of diseases with different clinical presentations, natural history, and treatment options. I think 'special' treatment and posts like the one above pointing to mortality of the disease are misguided.
70 years ago most (then) detectable cancers were universally fatal in short course, but there has been revolutionary change in many areas of oncology with some cancers now having over 90% 5 year survival rate and high chance of long term remission. While many cancers remain horrible diseases and a few are nearly universally fatal in short course (e.g. glioblastoma multiforme) what is the difference for the patient if he is dying from brain tumor or from brain damage caused by infectious agent? It is the poor prognosis of a particular patient that may warrant some types of special treatment, not the natural kind of the disease that he is suffering from.
Fostering the image of cancers as horrible, universally fatal and depressing diseases might actually be harmful to patients who have good prognosis if they can keep their treatment regimens (such as many testicular cancers).

In post hospital care right to continued support if desired such as Cancer survivor support. Serious consideration must be given to the clients right to be involved in care decisions and right to determine course of treatment ie. whether to go the route of surgery, chemo, radiation, etc. right to compassionate end of life care at home or in hospice.
Also right to life or decision regarding end of life and involvement of spiritual assistance if desired. Allowing clergy and other family support systems to be involved in care to the extent that the

I agree with sympathy and compassion. Unfortunately, Nursing is changed as a mechanical action in many hospitals without considering patients rights and nursing ethics!
