I am trying to run the interfacial shear rheology of paraffin oil-water emulsion. Part of the parameters I need to key into the rheometer is the viscosity of paraffin oil. Can anyone please tell me how to get this value?
Paraffin oil was purchased from sigma Aldrich. It's reported as a viscous liquid at 20 degrees. It's dynamic Viscosity was reported in a range of 110-230m pas but when I checked on google, the viscosity of paraffin oil is reported as 1000. I don't know which one is right
Why don't you measure the viscosity of the oil phase on your rheometer? Not sure why you have to 'key in the parameters'. A rheometer measures viscosity and a lot of other parameters that are basically derived from the viscosity-shear rate plot. You probably have a confusion of units between Stokes and centiStokes.
Also remember the viscosity of the paraffin oil may not only change with temperature, but also with the duration of shearing! This is why the viscosity of complex fluids is expressed as in a given range rather than a precise numeric value.
Term paraffin oil relates to a range of paraffin oils from light('low' viscosity) to high viscosity. Specifications of supplier are likely correct, however, it does not hurt to measure it by your own. Likely, you would like to measure interfacial shear rheology at oil-water interface not of 'paraffin oil-water emulsion'.
Between 25-80mPas, depends of the product. There are candle wax that are solids.
