The reaction mechanism is coal - solubilized coal - fragmented coal - benzoate - acetate - products (CH4 and CO2) based on the acetoclastic pathway.

I wish to know the relative speed for these steps. Many studies propose that solubilization is the rate determining step. What is the time scale of solubilization with respect to the final product formation (reaction)?
