I have problem in my thesis. I have read some papers and found the explanation that Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) is the most common technique for obtaining accurate data about the average size and size distribution of gold nanoparticles.
In particular, TEM analysis does not allow fast and real-time monitoring of AuNP size, and it does not provide informations about AuNP aggregation and concentration. Moreover, sample preparation is nontrivial and can modify nanoparticles size distribution and morphology, for instance, when AuNP are included in solid matrixes or reactive environments.
I strongly disagree with what you have read. An accurate determination of average size and size distribution will depend on the available stastistics. More number of particle you analysed better is the result. SEM would be my first choice for that matter. A good SEM image with ImageJ analysis would solve your problem.
Take low z matrix (graphite or aluminium foil); disperse your AuNP with suitable solvent after sonication. Take a good microphotograph with your SEM (if possible then with In-lens detector) and analyse with ImageJ to obtain a good statistics... rest is trivial.

Many nanoparticle labs use dynamic light scattering (DLS). Most publications use this equipment to measure the hydrodynamic diameter of particles, the size distribution, PDI, etc. It take about 1 min to measure each sample, and so you can measure the the size and check for aggregations very quickly and easily at each step of synthesis or experiment. You can use most standard solvents, and you can also measure the zeta-potential (surface charge) of the particles. It is a common equipment, so see if any labs around you have it, and try it out.

If you want to check the particles size of your nanoparticles (nps) then I will recommend you use DLS technique for this purpose. Although SEM or TEM are also used but DLS helps in accurate measuring the hydrodynamic diameter of nps. But if you want to check the morphology of nps then use SEM first of all and then TEM. Some scientists also prefer the size of nps calculated by TEM. But if you are going to use nps for biological purpose then use DLS.
