For metal matrix composite material (Al matrix composites) what is the importance of measuring micro and macro hardness after final processing of material?

Measurement of hardness is 300g. to 30 kg, and a hardness of 1 g. to 300g. When measuring the macro-hardness, an average hardness value will be obtained between the coating and the substrate. While only the hardness of the coating (the overlay layer) will be measured in the micro hardness measurement.

If you are investigating a tribofilm formation, microhardness is better to check the antiwear resistance of film. where macrohardness measure the overall average of the substrate.

when you measure macrohardness (load more then 0,5 kg) you got average hardness of microstructure and obtaining mechanical property data for the bulk material from a small sample.
microhardness you can use for just one little part of microstructure or for determination of layer.

I think tribofilms are less than one micron thick, so microhardness will be appropriate
