Food and protozoal N and residual N are normally calculated while knowing the effect of different feeds on rumen fermentation patterns
The significance is for you to determine depending upon your objective of research. However, it can be said in very general terms that the N trapped in Protozoans will not be available to the animal. If such trapped N values are high then it may even interfere with the function of the rumen as the protozoans, being holozoic in their mode of nutrition, will reduce the bacterial flora responsible for digestion of food in the rumen.
