First I want to confirm that you mean "neutrophil" not heterophil, right? Some studies showed that the uncontrolled and aberrant activation of the innate immune system has been implicated in the mice model of fatal influenza A viral infection. A significantly rapid cell recruitment of macrophages and neutrophils into the lungs have a role in the pathogenesis associated with H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza virus infection (HPAI). The macrophages and neutrophils will accumulate in the lungs, both in the early and late phases of the virus infection. Both of them will eliminate the influenza virus locally.  The macrophages will significantly increase in the lung at day 4 post infection. Both of macrophages and neutrophils have significant role in the late phase infection. When the viral load in the lung significantly decreased at day 10 post infection, their frequencies were maintained at high levels. Previous evidence suggested that influenza A virus infected cells are subjected to apoptosis-dependent phagocytosis and degraded together with the invading virus within phagocytes. Even though there was one study which showed that HPAI Virus H5N1 could infect alveolar macrophages but it was without virus production. It seems that the role of neutrophil and macrophage are as the defender of this virus rather than supporter for their replication. But there`s the possibility they are infected with this virus, as the one of viral escape mechanism, like in other virus infection.

ok I see. It is in the condition of avian as the host. Heterophil`s is just like neutrophil in mammalian host.
