I sight as same view with Subramanian Muthaiah..., saying that, lecturers has extra support in students development...were are always aware of how much lecturers have to do outside lectures. Our lecturers continuously have to write reports, go to meetings (some are not even in the city so they are travelling much further), just for the benefit of students, mark assignments and so on. We have our target to meet, and they have a lot of their own. Lectures have to do a lot behind the scenes, as well as teaching other classes. It’s outstanding the number of hours they put into their work. I do believe that, slowly and surely, lecturers are having more and more pressure put on them.So therefore if they malfunction somewhere in the academia, should be forgiven. They have to ensure their students are meet certain levels, they have to achieve quotas for a term or a year and if they don’t, it reflects badly on them. They have to teach us to a particular standard so that they can prove we are learning from them, and the list goes on. I personally believe that as there is more pressure on lecturers to achieve outside the lecture hall, then they such a hecullen responsibilities it’s going to start to affect what they achieve in the lecture hall.

Your comment is very interesting for me. As a senior lecturer I have tried many methods and efforts to make my students liked and understood what I was teaching. And the results of the exams was not not good. So, I think there is a better way for to learn from internet or online. But we have to prepare the course materials as good as possible. By this method, I think we will have more time to do another important things such as a research and implement our knowledge to industry and the society. So, the university may wish us to give us three responsibilities for us, not only to teach give lectures but also to conduct some researches and implemented our knowledge to the society. That's my opinion.

Dear Prof. Nazaruddin Sinaga Your queston is revelant. A lecturer has several responsabilities, those that you mention, but in some universities lecturers have to do more.

For example: role as advisors, committe meetings, mentorships, upgrade blogs and teaching web sites, curricula development among other.

Therefore, I particularly consider that the development of a teaching portfolio to include the mentioned responsabilities is crucial. Regards.

My Pleasure Prof. Nazaruddin Sinaga I noticed that some students get motivated by the use of virtual enviroments VLE.

For example, write collaborative reports with latex and assigments as well, calculate simulations posted on the web, blog with questions and answers.

That helped my students even at advanced level. Regards.

Yeah....I do believe that students can learn more efficient and effectively from the internet.....Prof. Nazaruddin Sinaga....But then only when they are guided by may be some learning managing systems employed by the school. To prevent them from wayward studies.

I think very important responsibilities that teachers must fulfill:

• Be academics who generate knowledge through research in their discipline or in the best way to educate their students (educational research).
• Promote the learning of their students through learning methods that promote their participation, such as working in project teams, doing documentary research, conducting field research. In short, teaching methods that link theory with practice in real situations.
• Finally, disseminate their knowledge through conferences, presentation of work in congresses and publication of results of their research and projects.

Our capacity as researchers can properly increase with the necessary technical training in scientific methods, procedures and instruments; To learn to investigate, you learn by researching and if you want to be a research professional, you must complete a postgraduate degree in scientific research with a focus on your discipline that interests you, and at the same time obtain a degree as a master's or doctorate in science.

On the other hand, computer science, Internet, telecommunications and computers with artificial intelligence programs, can help us to be more efficient in our research work, both in the procedures, the application of validated and automated instruments, such as the processing of information and statistical analysis of the results.

Dear Nazar, Every where duties of a lecturer are the same as you have given; teaching, doing research and improving and development in our society . A lecturer is also a part of society. His immediate influence is in the college / university where he teaches. Good Universities have good environment, good facilities, good students and freedom to do your research. Therefore, good salary, good students and freedom is a must to impart knowledge.

A job of a lecturer is also to assist the seniors in running the department college / university properly. Good universities are run by good people.

I agree with you. As you said, we have several function as a lecturer. What I want to discuss is how to increase our capacity for these responsibilities. In fact, it is very difficult to manage our times to do all of these if we have only 5 working days. So, I think it is very important for us, the lecturers, to manage our time appropriately. And maybe we have to divide which responsibility that has the first priority. That's what I want to discuss. I hope you can catch what I mean.

No wonder... We're from the same country (I thought you were from somewhere else in Asia).

Funny thing is, the people who works in Indonesian Institute of Science (LIPI), who work only on research whatsoever, receive bigger salary than us who are responsible on three things you mentioned in your question. And all of us are (including LIPI people) work under the same department or at least the same government.

A lecturer is a young and energetic part of a university. S/He is not only required to teach but to learn also. Therefore, s/he will not only to perform his/her duty, but will take active part in other academic and non academic activities also.

The various activities include to help his/her professors in curriculum development.

Thesis/research supervision

Get knowledge and skill of research and paper writing.

Preparation of conference, workshop and seminars

Arrangement and management of various meetings.

Extra curricular activities

Paper checking and preparation of result

Use of computer and run web page and social media

Lead Students Proctor board

Arrangement of exam

And so many other

A university lecturer needs to consider what you have suggested collectively; however, the main goal of a university lecturer , at least to me, is to help students learn how to live peacefully in a world with many ideological differences.

Yes, you are right; A lecturer has the responsibilities, which you have stated above. It is all about time management is what I feel. You could supervise the activities you have been given. Getting yourself to start everything from the scratch would definitely frustrate you.

The tasks of an associate professor include teaching (main duty), research, community engagement, postgraduate supervision, handling academic administration and securing research grants; among other things.

The task of an associate professor is not outrightly different from that of a full professor except that the latter takes more responsibility. The associate professor lectures, conduct research, engage in community problem solving, participate in committees, and mentor's the students.

The role of lecturer/ associate professor/ professor in university is not only to convey the knowledge already exists but also to create the new things means research activities.

The lecturer's responsibilities include developing course material and curricula, inspiring meaningful discussions, attending conferences, consulting with other academics and professionals, supervising graduate students, grading assignments, and being an active member of the university.
