Do you think pregnancy in insect, esp. Leptocorisa oratorius, correlate with olfaction response? This morning I found out that pregnant insect gave long response towards biopesticide (composed of zingiberaceae plants).
Last but not least, I encounter a problem to distinguish female and male rice bug, leptocorisa oratorius. Could you tell me the easiest way to recognize female and male rice bug? Most journals only says body length is the main distinct character.

your first question is very interesting! from my point of view, any physiological alteration would more or less lead to behavioural changes. btw, female insects afrer copulation do behave differently and their response is not only regarding their own fitness (e.g. survival in terms of food resource, presence of natural enemies; reproduction in terms of oviposition sites, further mating potential, etc.) but also the fitness of their offspring's, so they trade off for both themselves and their offspring in complex environments. this is a very rough idea and i hope it would help
Like it was said before, the females can change theirs responses to volatiles (kairomones) after mate, there is evidence that they are more attracted to plants volatiles (for phytophagous insects) once they are mated and it should be in concern to the offspring success opportunities.

Pregnancy in insects like Leptocorisa oratorius,signifies synthesis of vitellogenins and lipophorins which also contain fatty acids, and most of the olfactory groups recognized are either alcohols or any other active group that release some aroma. Females during pregnancy become more suscetible to olfaction beacuse of syntheiss of short peptides in brain which are induced due extra vitellogenin synthesis inLeptocorisa oratorius females.
