If we talk about smooth particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method as one of the meshless finite element, it can be used in applications where the element distortion is expected to be very high. In absence of SPH, if we use the solid elements (lagrangian), due to excessive element distortion, the computation may not be feasible. Also, the time-step remains almost constant in case of SPH, which also reduces the compute time.
