We have previously identified that IR or DMBA genotoxic stress cause micro-sized cysts in the skin, and this phenomenon is significantly observed in p53 -/- mice. Both WT and p53 -/- mice exhibit the removal of cysts, walled with differentiated keratinocytes (positive for keratin1 and 10), in a way they become upwards into the epidermis. This time-dependent discarding system is related to the cell competition, I mean that, the DNA-damaged cells tend to undergo differentiation and become easier to be cell migration in a form of cyst wall, preventing the potential malignant cells keep in the skin.
