In an observation , it was found that the AMF survived under highly acidic pH in lateritic soil of tropical humid climate. What is an ideal pH for AMF and whether they survive under acidic pH ? If so , what is the mechanism?
I believe ideally the pH range for optimal spore germination is 5-8 with 6-7 being more conservative in nature. BUT this is in no way to say that the range is all encompassing since many AMF strains/species can and do sporulate at pH below and above 5 (optimally between 4-5) and 8 respectively. Teamed with pH, the ambient temperature (normally within 20-30oC) is also equally important for such germination to take place.
