There is a hierarchical structure in academic leadership which often favours the ones with most successful grants or fame in their own field. But leadership is a different ball game. Should academic leaders be those with the right qualities needed or those who have demonstrated success in gaining grants in their respective research field (e.g. viruses in cancer)?
Academic leadership specifically in higher education supposed to be collaborative but egocentric managers are now misleading the path of higher education. Collaborative leadership is necessary for the growth and development of the higher education globally.
Emmanuel Sunday Essien I agree, collaborative leadership is the ideal but unfortunately, due to the hierarchy mentioned above, we often lack that collaborative component. We also see selective Leadersip which is often effective when there is a need to make hard decisions!
