NADPH oxidase hyperactivation is an important source of ROS production and consequently leads to myocardial infarction induced atrophy and some studies have shown that cardiac dysfunction after MI was associated with increased plasma levels of TNF-alpha and angiotensin II and that apocynin treatment decreased plasma levels of TNF-alpha. Can apocynin be the link between NADPH oxidase activity and muscle atrophy?
