I have gone through definitions of the term Asymptotic, and at one place I found the following:

A 'Line' that continually approaches a given curve but does not meet it at any finite distance.

I want to ask whether the above definition is OK? If yes then I have a question that we see that in the representation of Big Oh Notation the two functions f(n) and g(n) are represented by curves and NOT by line. So how could we take the above definition to understand the Asymptotic Notations?
