In my opinion, there are several reasons for this issue. One of the major cause of water shortage is pollution. Water is polluted when industrial wastes are deposited into water bodies. Moreover, Oil spillage can makes the water contaminated. Thus it cannot be used for drinking. The second is related to lack of water management in some countries. They can not convey the runoff to underground layers of soil. The third reason is...
Overuse of Water: Water overuse is a huge issue that a lot of people are dealing with. It may be overused on people, animals, land, or any other number of things. It may also be used for recreational activities without any care about the effects that it may have on the world around them.
Pollution of Water: Water pollution is a huge problem, especially when you’re looking at areas that don’t necessarily have a good sewage system. Pollution can be anything from oil, to carcasses, to chemicals, and to fecal matter. No matter what it is; it makes a lot of issues for the people who may need to use it.
Conflict: If there is conflict over an area of land, it may be difficult to access the water that is located there. In the worst case scenarios, people could end up dying if they try to access the water in these areas (due to violence). This can result in a variety of other issues, including pollution, which we discussed in the previous point.
Distance: There are a number of areas throughout the entire world that deal with water scarcity because they just aren’t close to anywhere that has water. Areas that are considered to be desert, or areas that are secluded, may not have somewhere that the people can get water effectively.
Drought: A drought is, in short, an area which is not getting enough rainfall to be able to sustain the life that is residing there. Some areas are in perpetual drought, whereas other areas may be dealing with a drought on occasion. Droughts are common all over the world, and there is little that can be done to prevent such things from happening.
Governmental Access. In some countries, specifically those with dictatorships, the use of water may be strictly controlled by those in power, causing a scarcity for those who may be located in those areas of the world. These governments use it as a source of control over those that they are governing, which can be a huge problem.
Effects of Water Scarcity
Lack of Access to Drinking Water: The biggest problem that happens when you have water scarcity is that people are not able to get fresh, clean drinking water. The human body can only go so long without water, and a lack of drinking water can result in a number of other problems, which we discuss below.
Hunger: If there is no water that can be used in order to help water the crops, then you are going to have people that are going hungry. Animals will also die, which will result in a lack of meat as well. Water scarcity, in short, causes starvation to occur en masse for both people and animals that are located in the area.
Lack of Education: Water scarcity makes it difficult for people to get the education that they need or that they deserve. Why? Mainly, because those children are either too sick to go to school (which we will discuss below), or they are working to help get water to the home and the family.
Diseases: If you don’t have clean water access, then you will be more likely to get diseases from the water that you do have. Whether you’re drinking the water or using it for bathing, those diseases will get into the body and, in a number of cases, the people carrying those diseases will pass away.
Sanitation Issues: Without access to clean water, there is no way to clean food, dishes, or people. When people are not given access to proper sanitation, disease (which we talked about above) ends up becoming much more of an issue than it would have been otherwise. It also causes mental health issues, including depression and anxiety.
Poverty: All in all, people who are dealing with water scarcity are often stuck in poverty as well. These people are not able to get the resources that they need in order to be able to thrive, and instead are just barely surviving through these difficult times.
the misuse of natural resources, bad policy and our lack of knowledge have caused all this impact on the planet, only reaching a universal consensus could improve the use of water
Causes of water shortage There are many reasons for the lack of water, which vary from region to region; some of these causes are caused by human actions, and some are caused by natural causes beyond the human intervention; the difference in the level of rainfall from one area to another
Drought and lack of water sources: Some regions around the world suffer from lack of adequate sources of water or adequate rainfall, especially in desert
Water pollution: one of the serious problems that cause the destruction of most freshwater sources around the world due to its contamination with oil or chemicals, both from industrialization and human consumption, or from the leakage of sewage lines, or the absence of these lines from the foundation .
Over-consumption of water: People's water consumption, especially those living in water-rich areas, leads to the lack of water in other parts of the country itself. Human conflicts: Whether these conflicts are on land or water sources, they lead to the inability of people in the vicinity of these lands to access their water resources.
We in Iraq can't feel that, because we leave billions of cubic meters of water go to the Arabian gulf.
I guess the most important step is to contain the rain water in an artificial lakes. by building dams on the valleys stream. this will provide good source of water.
second thing is to use modern way of plants water, the third is recycling of water used.
What is the main reason of causes, effects and solutions of water scarcity?
Possible Causes:
Man-made related - water contamination / pollution, wastage, lack of attention / failed to repair water leakage, water distribution ineffectiveness, global warming etc.
Geographical & weather related - self explanatory, but some weather changes e.g. change to drought might due to man-made reasons above.
Possible Effects:
Man-made related - water scarcity can cause change of lifestyle / behavior that consume less water, using alternative means i.e. waterless instead of water-based method to do cleaning etc.
Geographical & weather related - water prices increase due to high demand & low supply, tighter control of water sources / retention ponds in relevant geographical areas etc. that might lead to conflict, warfare etc.
Possible Solutions:
Man-made related - stricter regulations to penalize for water pollution / wastage, effective water retention / distribution infrastructure to avoid wastage, water conservation campaigns / educate public for better awareness etc.
Geographical & weather related - import water from water-rich countries, process / convert sea water into usable / drinkable water, recycle used water to clean water, water rationing at different times in a day, cloud seeding etc.
Overuse of water by industries, pollution of water by effluents and sewage, changes in climate and irresponsbile use of water by some people have all aggravated the problem. Cities that promote sustainability have been successful in curbing water use
Tamil Nadu is one of the country’s top groundwater guzzlers with 142 out of the total 385 blocks classified as over-exploiters of underground water sources. This means that the extraction of groundwater outstrips recharge, resulting in severe resource crunch.

Nature has already given the sufficient water to earth. More than 70% of earth is covered with water. Among them sources of fresh water is very limited. Due to human activities, now we are facing the shortage of water.
Overuse and wastage of water is the main cause of water scarcity. because fresh water resources are very limited. so we have to use water in limited edition.
I think the major reasons for scarcity of water is deforestation, over-consumption of water, industrial pollution and lack of technology and knowledge for utilisation of underutilised water resources.
Although there is water in some regions, water is contaminated from sewage they are not suitable for human consumption and this may be a reason for disease outbreaks, especially in African countries.
When considering possible solutions, use of techniques like reverse osmosis for production of potable water from sea water and treatment of waste water for the use of irrigation and other suitable applications would be better options.
I think water is not a problem since one third of this earth is covered with water. The problem is for drinking water and it will be emerged a serious problem for mankind unless we take appropriate measure for this. Even we have to fight for getting drinking water in future. Climate change is a issue but man made problem is the biggest issue in this regard.
Socio-ecological restoration, taking care on local comunities relationship with the environment and the production in a holistic way, may improve water management. As an example, in some Andean comunities the restoration of ancestral infraestructures may help the comunities to increase water regulation with lower impacts on the environment that new grey infraestructures, and allowing to improve their agricultural production and their incomes at the same time (enhancing cultural values and reducing migration from rural to urban territories).
I agree with Sasini, that one good solution will come from desalinization of sea water. This can be done with efficient modern methods, using renewable energy. Such as this:
The reason that fresh water becomes scarce is largely that (still increasing) populations are moving into megacities, placing too much demand on too small an area. And as others have said, deforestation doesn't help. But we have plenty of water on the planet. Just have to make it potable.

Water is the most valued commodity in the 21st century, more so than even oil. Misuse of water, erratic climate patterns (from global warming) and not being serious about conservation efforts are some of the main reasons. Poor urban planning without giving due consideration to availability of resources including water continues. Corporate interests prevail over common sense solutions.
Some remedies could be - desalination projects where feasible, stepped up conservation efforts, taking climate change seriously and imposing sanctions on those countries who do not do so and restoring wetlands to their former statuses.
