Hi everyone,
I am writing my dissertation and I am very confused on how to measure my variables. When opening my spss data it all says unknown. One variable is: Interest in politics. The responses are as follows: 1= very interested. 2= fairly interested 3= not very interested. 4= not at all interested. Am I right in assuming that this is ordinal data? I have asked a friend and she has said it is nominal as the numbers do not correlate to the words. Can anyone help? Also, when looking at Likert scales do all of my variables need to be recoded in the same way? So if I have a strongly agree as 1, do all other variables need to have strongly agree as 1 or can I have strongly disagree as 1?
Many thanks, sorry if this is a silly question. I have only just learnt how to use spss and I'm getting stuck with the basics.
