Both Si solar cells and perovskite solar cells have shown greater efficiencies but these cells have some limitations. Currently, Si-Perovskite solar cells and CIGS-Perovskite solar cells have been introduced and these tandem cells have drawn much attentions. What is the future of these cells?
The answer of your question may need in depth study but i will try to give some conceptual and logical answer.
- There is more mature technology based on all silicon multi junction solar cells which is characterized by high stability, more robustness against environmental conditions and thereby have long lifetime.
- The longer wave length absorber in both types of solar cells either silicon or CIGS is well behaved, stable and of high lifetime.But the short wavelength absorber the perovskite is sensitive to the environmental effects such as water moisture which renders the whole solar cells unstable and of short lifetime. The reliability of the solar cells are a necessary factor and can not be compromised.
Until this issue is solved one can not speak about the commercialization of such solar cells. There is intensive research to increase the long term stability of the perovskite solar cells. One this issue is solved, the multijunction solar cells including pervoskite will certainly be used.
