T3SSs are mostly found in pathogenic Gram-negative bacteria, while T4SSs are found in both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria and also in some archaea. T4SSs are the most ubiquitous secretion systems in nature. T3SSs are required for virulence of dozens of Gram-negative bacteria and largely absence in beneficial bacteria, while T4SSs are involved in bacterial pathogenesis in a few organisms sun as Helicobacter pylori, Bordetella pertussis and Legionella pneumophila.
First of all T4SSs are capable of transporting both protein and DNA mostly in complexes afaik. This is very different from T3SSs. Here:
