I have recently made it our of the 'post-doc death spiral' and made it to Senior Research Scientist (equivalent to Assist. Prof or Lecturer). At my university, Profs earn roughly 2 x my salary. I've heard of some rules of thumb about the requirements to make that grade (80 papers and $2 million in funding), but there are vast differences between disciplines and individuals. Based on your uni and experience, what do you think we should focus on as mid-career researchers to get ahead? Really interested in your thoughts.
