I would assume it's possible if the viral DNA is single-stranded. Check the literature to see if someone else has already designed a protocol. Good luck!
I am working on mycoviruses. Yes, it is possible to detect mycoviruses in total RNA but in some cases the yield is very low. If you fail, you may also extract dsRNA and ssRNA by using different protocols, such as by the CF-11 cellulose chromatography method or LiCl method or total RNA by Trizol RNA extraction protocols.
