What is the easiest way to attach something such as caffeine to gold or silver nanoparticles?

I have created gold nanoparticles as well as gold ions en-capsuled by silver. I am trying to track drug diffusion rates, but to do so I first have to attach a chemical of some type. I plan to start by using caffeine since it is a little cheaper to test with. So what is the best way to attach the caffeine to the particles?
