Dromedaries and Bactrian camels mate in a couched position. An effective copulation is achieved by the male only by adopting a correct mating position. This ability is age related.
Usually, at my knowlege it is 5 years. Before, it is possible with few animals having strong growth, but even in that case, his fertility is low because physiologivally; he has not reached his full sexual maturity.
Beke Marquard in Germany told me that their camels, both males and females, will normally mate at the age of 3 years. Females will have their first calf normally at 4 years, but accidentally even a 3-year-old cow had a calf.
Thank you Malin, interesting. Well developed female dromedaries may very rarely mate at 3 years most often is 4 years or even later. A good normal breeding event is a calf at 4 to 5 years. Male dromedaries they may try to mate at 3-4 years however they are able to mate unassisted only much later then bactrian: at 6 years.
