Citizen science refers to activities in which citizens participate in research planning, data collection, data analysis, interpretation, and publication. While the outputs may differ slightly when aiming for academic achievements, it aligns more closely when the outputs are intended to address local issues, such as ecological conservation, responses to environmental destruction, or poverty alleviation. The Citizen Science Association in the United States has recently changed its organizational name to the 'Association for Advancing Participatory Science,' emphasizing 'participation' even more.
