Can you please erase the doubt from my mind regarding 'Pay and Publish' versus 'Free Publication,' because in both the cases money is being demanded either from the author or the reader.
In the publishing industry under 'Pay and Publish' the author/s need to pay the publication charges and in case of 'Free Publication' the reader/s need to pay some amount in the form of so-called 'ACCESS.' Then, where is the ethics of research and how can we claim the authenticity of the so-called reputed publishers who are free for contributors but are earning huge profits from the individuals or institutions. Please through some light on this.

'Pay and Publish' does not necessarily mean that the publication will be available for free. Many publishers are getting paid by the author(s) and by the readers. I think you mean 'Open Access'. I have closely followed the publishing industry for a while now and I can understand why there is a need to pay to publish. There are expenses incurred in the process of publishing your work. For instance, if they do not maintain a robust indexing service, your work will never get discovered. They also pay their backend staff who do the job. What I am really against is that the cost is so exorbitant for some big journals. They never care for the authors who did the job. They sell and pocket everything. Well, this shouldn't be a barrier. There are very decent places to publish at low cost.
