I'm currently conducting some in-depth research into some of the more granular models within SPSS, and am wondering, when faced with the error "Rotation failed to converge in 25 iterations. (Convergence=.001)", what is the main difference between using the convergence function - RCONVERGE(0.022) - and increasing the number of iterations - ITERATE(50) to force the pattern matrix?
What is the difference between those two functions in terms of how the output is interpreted?

The first question is rotation failed to converge in 25 iterations, it mean the number of iteration as define in the model is not sufficient and better to increase the number of iterations to higher value. So that the unbalanced forces are carried forward to next iteration and completing the first increment of load with satisfying convergence criteria. Actually, in your model, the convergence criteria is need to define that saying the limiting displacement or forces reached to the define value then next incremental load is to be applied, which is called the convergence function. I recommend you to read software manual or any finite element book for further understanding..all the best in your research..
I would increase the amount of iterations, but would keep the convergence criterion as it is. I would not force the procedure to stop. If you have to iterate over 100, something in the data is wrong or you have the misfortune that start at a wrong point in the solution space. Look at it as being drop in Switzerland blindfolded and are asked to find the lowest point in Switzerland. If you start in the wrong valley, you will never find the lowest point. Can you change the start point for the procedure you are using?
