DSC is Differential Scanning Calorimentrie - 1 sample, 1 reference "sample", measurement of Heat Flow, Tsample and Tref at heating/cooling/isotherm, interpretation of heatflow over T or time ---> several constructions/evaluations possible

DTG is Difference Thermo Gravimetry and in my opinion the same as TGA Thermo Gravimetry Analysis -  1 sample, no reference, measurement of Dm (weight loss or weight increase) at heating/cooling/isotherm, interpretation by Dm over T or time

Dear Steffen, Thank you for explaining in detail. Endothermic and exothermic peaks are mentioned in DTA or DTG?

The effects I think you want to see will be seen with DTA, but much more better with DSC. With DTG you will see weight losses/increasing, which can be exot- or endotherm.

DTA is Difference Thermo Analysis. DTG is Difference Thermo Gravimetry which similar to Thermo Gravimetry Analysis. Heat flow unit is W/g 

DTA is Difference  Thermo Analysis, measures the heat flow during such temperatures.

and you can obtain the specific capacity of the samples. The peaks observed showing the chemical reaction occur to change from one phase to others, either the endothermic reaction  (usually for melting) or exothermic reaction (crystallization, release some energies). 

DTG is Difference Thermo Gravimetric, measuring the weight loss of the sample during the heating process. Usually it decreases when exothermic reaction occurs. Therefore both figures from DTA and DTG are usually overlapping each other, in order to  explain what's going on the thermal processes.

TGA and DTG can be obtained from the same result, while DTA and DSC are different.

DTA is based on the temperature difference while DSC is based on the heat flow difference. Differential thermal analysis (DTA) is suited for the determination of characteristic temperatures, while differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) additionally allows for the determination of caloric values such as the heat of fusion or heat of crystallisation. This can be done with two different measuring techniques: heat-flux differential scanning calorimetry or power-compensated differential scanning calorimetry.

DSC and DTA  are both  used in measuring a glass transition, phase changes, purity evaporation, melting, purity crystallization, sublimation, polymerization, heat capacity, compatibility, pyrolysis, etc.

In addition to Alok's input, the TGA will give you mass change in mili gram/micro gram as a function of time or temperature subjected to heating. DTG will provide you the percentage and peak temperature of sample mass change. DSC will provide you heat flow variation in milli watt/micro watt; and DTA will provide you heat flow measured in micro volt/ delta Temperature/Temperature per milli gram.  In brief, the DSC/DTA measure the heat flow and the TGA/DTG measure the weight change of the sample subjected to heating.

The basic difference between TG and DTG is that TG tells about the mass loss of organic matter with respect to temperature and DTG tells about the decomposition of the constituents of organic matter at specific temperature with the helps of peaks during DTG analysis.

DTG plot is the derivative plot of TGA. The weight loss is differentiated with respect to time and then the as-obtained values are plotted against the temperature.

Area under DTG curve suppose to describe the total mass change % as a function of time/Temperature ... where as in area under DTA curve, shows the total enthalpy of the peak or energy absorbed/released by the sample compared to reference crucible within specified time/temperature.

TGA tells about the amount of materials removed in % against temperature, while DTG tells about the rate at which these materials are removed in %/min, and it's depicted be either exo or endothermic peak.

Sure, TGA is the mass change and can be expressed as absolute value (mg) or as a relative value of initial mass (%). But DTG is a differentiation of TGA with time and expressed as (%/min or mg/min) . DTA is a temperature difference between measured sample and reference sample (dT=T sample-T reference) and expressed as (microvolte/mg)

TGA measures weight change of a sample over a temperature range, DSC measures heat flow of a sample over a temperature range, and DTA measures heat differences between a reference sample and a sample of interest over a temperature range. From these individual techniques, we can determine heat capacity, glass transition points, crystallinity data, and thermal stability of a material.

1. Establish the composition of complex by using various techniques such as icp-oes and chns.

2. Then by knowing the complex molecular weight, identify the region of weight loss on the tga thermogram or if you combine tga and dta thermograms in origin software you'll get exact idea that where the weight loss is taking place.

TGA and DTG give the same results based on changes in mass while DSC and DTA based on the changes in energy but DSC keeps the difference in temperatures of the sample and the reference constant while measuring variations of heat flow while DTA keeps the heat flow constant and monitoring the changes in temperature differences between sample and ref..
